Saturday Laziness: Nothing but Everything, Sofia Coppola, Obama Bowl

2009 March 21

Here’s the introductory paragraph, in which I summarize what it is exactly that we will soon be seeing below. We’ve got Nothing but Everything, a great spoof of the mumblecore “genre” of films, also we have some presidential sports news courtesy of Jay Leno (so much about that I never expected I would say), as well as Sofia Coppola’s french Dior ad which may be the one French thing to kick American ass.

Nothing but Everything

Here we have the trailer for a Wallace Cotten film which perfectly captures the angsty feelings of the white middle class twentysomething set of people who wish they were loved.

It looks like this would actually be a lot more enjoyable than much of what the mumblecore movement has done, not to mention the cinematography’s better. At least it’s closeups of people outside instead of in a white-walled apartment bedroom for two hours.

Barack Obama Would Out Bowl Retards

Obama compared his bowling abilities to someone who might compete in the Special Olympics while talking with Jay Leno the other night. Many are calling the statement a mistake, but have a look for yourself:

Come on. Of course that’s not a mistake. Obviously Barack Obama could outbowl someone in the Special Olympics. Have you ever bowled with someone in a wheelchair? They always go over the line and default. And they can’t even put on their own bowling shoes half the time. You’ll always get them on the technicalities.

Sofia Coppola Ad

This is an ad Sofia Coppola made for Dior in which she pretty much perfectly makes fun of her own movie making. It’s reminiscent of the Wes Andersen American Express ad that ran a while back.

As with any Sofia Coppola film: I want to go to there. Why is it that advertisements in France look like this, while advertisements in America look like this?
