Saturday Laziness: Howie, Top That, Jack Bauer
Once again, in lieu of actually doing anything for you ungrateful readers, I’m simply going to copy and paste some links here. A monkey could do my job, and they’d probably pay it more.
Today we have some revolutionary comedy, in some its awkwardest forms possible care of: Howie Mandel, the 80′s, and Japan.
Top That!
First and foremost, let’s get the awkward ’80′s rap battle out of the way. You’ve probably seen it already, but it might just be funnier the tenth second time around.
Also, it was mentioned on 30 Rock, so that makes it really famous now. But I saw it before that, so… I’m like, really cool.
Japanese 24 Ad
Saw Derrick Comedy last night at UCB, and they referenced a Japanese advertisement for the show 24. I wasn’t sure I believed it could be this silly, until actually finding it on YouTube.
If you don’t know Derrick Comedy yet, you should. They’re relatively famous. Hell, they even have their own film premiering at Sundance this year. Check out the trailer.
Howie Do It!
Um… Howie Mandel and NBC treated me to the most uncomfortable thing I had ever seen, and that was just during a promotion for Howie Mandel’s show. Let me reiterate: this was before I had ever even seen the actual show.
After watching this, I thought that perhaps Howie Mandel was so avant-garde that I didn’t even understand his comedy. I was worried that perhaps this was some form of anti-comedy so extreme that it doesn’t even result in a laugh, just anger and confusion and then weeks later suddenly the punchline dawns on you and you break out into raucous laughter and applause while in line at the ATM. But nope. It’s just that awkward. As proof, just read The A.V. Club’s review of the pilot episode.
