Higher Taxes on Fun/Vision in NY
Gov. David Paterson of New York released his first state budget yesterday, which would increase state spending by $1.3 billion. The increased spending will hopefully be covered by what the governor is calling an “iPod tax” which would tax all digitally delivered entertainment. The blind governor has also proposed tax increases on such things as soda, movies and sports tickets, and cable TV. According to the governor’s staff, the increased tax on soda is due to high levels of obesity, and the other taxes are due to high levels of people who can see.
In case you’re one of those who can see, maybe you haven’t yet seen the SNL sketch that deeply offended the governor for pointing out that he is, in fact, blind:
I haven’t watched it yet, so it might actually be horribly derogatory. See, blindness is a tricky one. I would have gone with the whole “black” thing.
