Hollywood Report: Three Sequels in Development
Recently Hollywood has been digging deep to try and create sequels to popular films of the past. Here are the summaries of just three upcoming Hollywood projects that carry forward from past successes:
American Beauty 2 – The film follows Ricky & Jane (Wes Bentley & Thora Birch returning) as they struggle to find a life for themselves in New York City. Their budding romance is complicated when Jane’s mother Carolyn (Diane Keaton) moves in with them after her husband, real estate king Buddy Kane, kills himself over suppressed homosexual tendencies. While Ricky tries to make it big in the video art world (prompting a hilarious scene with snooty Guggenheim curator Ricky Gervais), Jane has to teach her mother to move on with her life and realize it’s not her fault all of her husbands die because of homoerotic tendencies. Jane’s old classmate Angela makes an appearance as the flighty bartender at a trendy club who ends up stealing Carolyn’s hunky date.
Wild Blueberries – The story follows the critically acclaimed, but commercially disappointing, Wild Strawberries (Directed by Ingmar Bergman). Agda (Sandra Bullock) and Professor Isaac Borg (Hugh Grant) are on a road trip from Charleston, South Dakota to San Francisco. On the road, they have to deal with a zany hitchhiker (Jack Black), bad drivers (Michael Cera), and their own complicated feelings towards each other. Through flashbacks of her life as Isaac’s personal maid, and her childhood in the orphanage/maid-school she grew up in, Agda comes to terms with her own mortality.
Jaws 5 –The great-grandchildren of Martin Brody have heard all about the famous great white shark attacks that plagued their family, but since that shark was killed have nothing to worry about. That is, until the shark’s great-grandchildren reach maturity and begin to hunt and feed for themselves. Pandemonium quickly descends on Amity Island, until a man with a shady past docks on the island claiming to be the grandson of an illegitimate son Quint fathered while in Vietnam. The question isn’t whether the Brodies will fight the sharks, but will they be able to get to them all before the sharks can kill everyone on Amity Island?
